At Baku Engineering University (BEU), an event dedicated to organ donation was held by the Coordination Center for Organ Donation and Transplantation under the Ministry of Health.
Aztəhsil.az reports that the purpose of the event was to increase public awareness about organ donation and to promote a responsible and humane approach in this field.
Bayram Huseynzade, Vice-Rector for Social Affairs and Public Relations of BEU, who delivered the opening speech, emphasized the relevance of organ donation worldwide and in our country, and its significant role in saving human lives. He stated that the development of the healthcare system in our country, the application of modern medical technologies, and the improvement of the quality of medical services have created significant opportunities for the development of vital areas such as organ donation and transplantation. The Vice-Rector highlighted the importance of public awareness for the further development of this field and the significance of systematically organizing such meetings.
In her speech, Gunay Abbasova, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Coordination Center for Organ Donation and Transplantation under the Ministry of Health, spoke about the reforms carried out in the healthcare sector in our country and the development of the organ donation system. She also drew attention to the existing legislative framework and international experience in this field, and noted the importance of raising awareness and forming a correct approach in increasing social responsibility in society. Providing information on the stages required to become a donor, as well as the concept of brain death and its medical-legal criteria, Gunay Abbasova stated that organ donation is not only a medical act but also an act of high moral value, and each donor's decision can save several lives.
Afterwards, Mehriban Aliyeva, the physician-coordinator of the institution, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the topic. The presentation provided extensive information on the importance of organ donation, the existing procedures for becoming a donor, the state policy implemented in this field, and international experience. It was noted that several countries have gained successful experience in organ transplantation, and in recent years, Azerbaijan has also achieved positive indicators in this direction.
During the presentation, misconceptions existing in society regarding organ donation were also addressed, the humane and moral aspects of organ donation were explained, and it was highlighted that this process is carried out in a fully transparent manner, in accordance with legislation.
During the interactive event, numerous questions from students were answered.
Finally, gifts were presented by the Coordination Center for Organ Donation and Transplantation to the students who asked the best questions.
