“Novruz Cup”: Sumgayit State University was FIRST

The regional futsal tournament “Novruz Cup” has commenced among students of higher and secondary vocational education institutions.

According to information provided to Aztəhsil.az by the Public Union of Azerbaijan Student Football Federation, the games are being held in 2 groups in the cities of Shirvan and Ganja. 

In the games organized at Shirvan State College of Economics and Humanities for the Southern region, teams from Lankaran State University, Shamakhi State Regional College, Shirvan State College of Economics and Humanities, Lankaran State Humanitarian College, Goychay State College of Management and Technology, and Sumgait State University competed. 

Based on the results of the games held, Sumgait State University took 1st place, Lankaran State University 2nd, and Shirvan State College of Economics and Humanities 3rd place. 

It should be noted that the games for the Western region will be held on March 11 at the Ganja Sports Olympic Complex. Teams from Azerbaijan State Agrarian University, Ganja State University, Azerbaijan University of Technology, Mingachevir State University, Mingachevir Tourism College Mingachevir Tourism College, Aghdam State Socio-Economic College, and Shaki State Regional College will participate in the competition.

The tournament is organized by the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Public Union of Azerbaijan Student Football Federation, with the support of the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA).

The purpose of holding the tournament is to increase the interest in futsal among students of higher and secondary vocational education institutions in Baku, as well as in the regions, who do not participate in the Azerbaijan Student League, to promote this sport among them, and to form a futsal national team consisting of students.
